I reached out to her and addressed the concerns. In her response she stated she had no intention of stealing anyone's designs or brand and that she had never seen The Virts decks (or really any other decks) before. She's making changes to the back design as a result. Her idea was that she just wanted arrows pointing to the center.

In any case, she's aware of the issue now and is working to fix it with hopes that the community will not attack her.

Yeah, that's really harsh to call it a ripoff. While in hindsight it's pretty similar to virts, it's a fairly common design element and is pretty much just a variation of the aperture symbol (6 vs 8 sides and colored) with a rectangular card shape extracted out of the center. The virts design is hardly revolutionary as a result so it's totally plausible that it was just a coincidence.




EDIT - as a deck design overall though, meh. I loathe decks like this that just slap information or photos on a card and call it a custom deck. Charts and stats are for presentations and wikipedia, while standard rectangular photos are for photo albums. Square peg, roundish hole.

@Eoghann - Oh yea, she is a cutie. If you notice the centering of the image. I don't think it's an issue. The Back of Card is different. Look at the Corners. She doesn't have to change a thing...

Wow, you guys are pretty generous with your benefit of the doubt.

While I'll grant you that the Virts design is not exactly revolutionary, there is precious little to separate her back design from theirs. Both have a hexagon at the center; both have almost the same shade of grey; plus two other colors that are complementary to each other. And one design is rotated barely 5-10 degrees from the other... just enough to be "different". Take out the center circle... insert some text... et voila!

Does anyone know her well enough to vouch for her, or are you going easy on her because she's a cute and innocent-looking girl?

Because if it's the latter... I know someone who would like to sell you some awesome custom playing cards at a great price!!! They're based on the USA's "Founding Fathers"...

nope, don't know her at all. Reached out to her the same way I would have reached out to anyone with questionable artwork. Also, I don't think she's trying to get in the business of playing cards....so yeah, that being said...I feel it was an honest mistake/coincidence. If the back artwork does not change like she said it would after learning about the Virts...then yeah...it becomes a bigger deal.
