Ascension Volume II - Steve Minty

Unread post by Adonael »

I just had to start a thread for this after seeing the image on IG. This is his first sequel (here's hoping for an Anubis/Osiris sequel, I was an original backer thankfully because prices are stupid now!), obviously he must have had a lot of fun with the Signature editions in Part 1 lol. Like always there's no way in hell I'll be able to afford the Signature decks but I still do enjoy the standard ones even though his artwork has been criticised lately for not evolving. Coming very soon, February 7th!

Only one picture of course, but I am not feeling it. Hopefully, once more details come out I will.

Is it just me or does that tuck look like it is made of actual metal and slips open from the center?

If the tuck is like his Ascension Signature decks, then the tuck does open from the center. If the tuck were made of metal, it would be great as the 3D head is quite heavy for the paper stock used in the v1 Signature decks, but I just looks like a prismatic stock to me.

Ascension Part 2 - Steve Minty

Unread post by Ragzzz »

I was actually chatting to him a couple days before he released this first image

So I’m hoping he doesn’t mind me sharing

Basically the theme is Ascension II - Blood Dragons & Frost Dragons

The tucks will be similar to the first Ascension except Steve is using some kind of clear resin for the heads

The tuck (of the Frost) is something similar to the foils/colourings used on his Moon deck - hence that prismatic look

The design is complete - so the wait/production shouldn’t be as long as the first Ascension

The first renderings of Ascension 1 were awful...compared to the real thing they were a far cry

I’m looking forward to the final product - but of course I’m a bit of a fanboy

Yup, I have seen the cards. Not the kind of style I prefer. Ascension and Z deck are his weakest decks, imo.
Hana, Olympia and Anubis/Osiris are way better. That's just a subjective opinion but his cards don't match the level of his tuck boxes for me. If the dragon head on this tuck box gets refined and is more like the previous Ascension Signatures then it sure is, hell of a display piece. Just not for me.

You’ve seen the Ascension 2 cards already??

But regarding your assessment & as a Minty fan I’m inclined to agree on the comparison between the series.

Anubis/Osiris got me hooked - but I think I love Hana more...both the sigs and stds

I’m also hoping the Dragon head becomes as detailed as The Lion/wolf

Nah, sorry that was a misunderstanding. I meant the previous Ascension cards.

Totally agree, the Lion/Wolf heads were truly awesome! I loved how they turned out and am looking forward to the next two.

I'm getting the two basic decks, same as last time, but I just cannot bring myself to get the ones with the big stuff attached to it. Am I just a broken soul because I hate the way they look?

I long ago resigned myself to never having any Signature editions so it's a non-issue for me, but I really do like the artwork on these more than Part 1 so I'm definitely happy with them. I think this is a great follow-up.

I wonder if there are any Hana decks floating around that I could one day snag.

You should. They are among the best of the best when it comes to custom decks.

The tuck boxes for this series are ridiculously cool, but I just can't bring myself to pledge. I can't get around the cards themselves, they just don't impress me.
