Quick glimpse, looks ok.

Will probably be getting a split brick but surprised with the RRP 35EUR for the Brewer's Reserve?

200% is reachable without a doubt, judging by the previous campaigns.

Good luck :)

Thanks!

I expect that if we get there most will sell out during the campaign. As we're restricting to 1000 only, we can't just print more due to demand.

So it's a really expensive deck to make as cold foil is usually for runs much higher, but we figured something out. The campaign price is €19 more or less. So that RRP is basically the cost for whatever may remain through our website.

We won't be selling the copper ones to dealers either. It's really something just for the collectors who support the campaign :)

Hey guys!

There've been a couple of questions about the Brewer's Reserve deck for those who don't want a split brick.

Whilst getting the split brick is the most economical way of getting it, there will be plenty of tiers including the special edition that I can only launch once the stretch goal is hit, but I'll be announcing the exact launch times here so you can organise yourselves accordingly :)

The tiers will be as follows. They are all strictly limited, especially the single deck tier, so check back here to be notified of times if you're inserted in one of the more limited tiers.

1x Hops & Barley Brewer's Reserve Deck - €35

limited 20 TRACKED SHIPPING INCLUDED EU/US

Set of all 3 H&B Playing Cards - €56

Get one of each deck in the H&B series with tracked shipping (RRP €59)

limited 50
TRACKED SHIPPING INCLUDED EU/US

Half Brick Split of H&B Playing Cards - €95

Get two of each variant of H&B playing cards (RRP €118)

limited 100

COMPLETE Jocu Playing Cards Collection - €100

Get ONE copy of every Jocu Playing Cards deck so far, including the ALL decks from the Hops & Barley campaign (RRP €115)

1x each Hops & Barley deck (3 decks)
1x each Green man deck (2 decks)
1x each Fillide deck (2 decks)

limited 10

If there are any other tiers you'd like to see let me know, but I think we covered a good spread to allow as many people as possible who really want the deck to get it.

A couple posts ago you said brewers reserve was 19, in your last post you said 35. Which is it?

I am am really only interested in the reserve deck but 35€ is too much for it imo.

Yeah sorry, this isn't really something I wanted to get into as it involves tiering and discounts. For example saying that the standard decks cost €11 is true... if you buy one. But for most tiers you'll be paying around €10 or less. For bricks, around €9.

The Brewer's Reserve RRP is €35 - but this is really only high as the RRP is what it will be sold for later on the webstore (I only went into it because someone asked about it). These prices serve only for after the campaign. If you take a look at, for example Gio's campaigns his decks are always around double price from the website because the KS is such good value.

The Brewer's reserve campaign price is about €19. However depending on the tier it may be higher due to the shipping method I'll use for it (tracked insured) and so on.

So the prices above are what it will be when it becomes available after the stretch goal is met INCLUDING SHIPPING. I can't reduce this as I don't expect to have many decks left and can't afford for any to go missing in transit.

tldr, if you just want that deck, you would need to wait until we reach the goal and either get one of the single tier (€35 shipped with tracking and insurance).

Hope that makes sense!

EDIT - I hear ya about the price. I don't know of any cold foil decks with such a low print run, so the cost is quite high. However Let me see if I can figure something out for you. We'll see how the first day goes and when I actually have the new launch tiers teed up I'll give you a shout.

Ultimately that deck is really crated for the kind of collectors who hang here at UC so I'll find a way of making it work for you. Let's get there first and I'll give you a shout :)

I am still a little confused about the Brewer's Reserve. If the stretch goal is met (which I expect), will you be offering the Brewer's Reserve as an add-on and if so, how much would it be to add on? If not, what will the tiers with Brewers Reserve look like?

Hi shermjack!

It won’t be an addon as we won’t be able to keep track of numbers. Instead it will only be available in new, limited reward tiers that I wrote a couple of posts back.

The only reward tier that will automatically be upgraded to include it is the split brick. Then when we hit the goal, I’ll open new reward tiers including single decks, a triple set of all 3, a half split brick and so on.

That way there’ll be a few different options but we won’t lose track of the numbers.

Hey Jocu,

Yeah, sorry I forgot about that post, but by reading it again, I noticed that backers that just want the Brewers Reserve or a set of all 3 don't really get any benefit from getting it on KS vs. your website afterwards as it is priced 35 euro either way. The only discount one would get is to back the half brick, which isn't very economical either compared to a brick for 30 euro more, which gets you an additional 6 (standard) decks.

Personally, they way that they are priced, I think you will have a decent amount left over after the campaign, but you'll probably sell a lot of bricks, which is probably what you want anyways. I will definitely be going in on a brick with someone as it is by far the best deal of the campaign, especially when the stretch goal for the Brewer's Reserve is met.

Anyways, good luck!

I hear you and I realise there’s no option for a collector who wants 2 copper decks only.

It’s a balance between getting funded (which requires shifting a lot of standard decks) and looking out for the community that may just want the limited deck.

I’ll focus on getting to the stretch goal and then I’ll make an announcement here for the UC community. It would be nice to do a limited reward for members here where they can get the reward they want and I’d be happy to accommodate as long as I can do so without jeopardising the main campaign :)

I appreciate you trying to work with us on the price for the reserve. .

One of your statements above about the price being so high is based on such a low run number of cold foiled decks. So that begs the question of why the low number? You could certainly print more unless you don't feel they will sell.

I guess it kind of makes a catch 22. Print too many at a better price that don't sell and you lose money. Print less that you expect to sell at a higher price and people don't buy it. Decisions decisions.

This isn't because I don't like the other decks it is just because there are so many decks coming out these days and buying sets of three decks which are basically the same but different colors in order to get the limited I want have run its course with me.

Congrats on almost reaching your funding goal!

As for the Brewer's Reserve, it's not about an option for just 2 Brewer's Reserve, but about the pricing. You are offering the lower tiers (single deck or set of 3 decks) at regular retail pricing, so there is no benefit from backing the KS. With the current world situation, some might want to hold off on spending money now and wait until it becomes available on your website later, which would hurt the campaign. I just think that it would be good to provide better pricing for your KS backers for the decks as a thanks for the support, such as an EB price for the set or something.

I'm in for an EB pair but I thought there was supposed to be a "one of each" tier. Why don't I see it? What the hell do I have to do to get a Brewers Reserve? I have to say this is starting to be as confusing as an Alex Chin release.

Jocu clearly said he would have new tier levels once the reserve deck is unlocked. Since it is not just yet, there are no levels where you can get the reserve except for the bricks where 2 decks will be swaped only IF we reach the stretch goal

Be patient all hehe

^^ this

The Reserve can’t be printed with the current funds so it’s not yet available, otherwise if things stay as they are I simply couldn’t fulfil the campaign.

The philosophy behind the pricing of the campaign is to offer an affordable, fun and high quality deck (standards) whilst not forgetting about collectors who want something a bit more special and unique, but ultimately will make up a pretty small percentage of the funds.

I’ve tried to find a balance - basically to provide the premium deck we need to shift a lot of standards (although I’d argue they’re not really standard when compared to the standard courts, cheap glossy digital tucks of the big standard print runs)

Theres a plan here to get us to the copper deck but we need to be patient, we’re still pretty small fry and don’t pay for promotion so it’ll be a slog but we’ve made quicker progress than on our other projects so I’m optimistic.

The best thing to do now is try and get as much publicity as possible and we’re lining up some things for next week.

That copper deck is for us and the community here - it’s way too expensive to sell through traditional aftermarket channels and won’t be cost-effective enough to distribute normally. But it’s something we want to create to push what we’re capable of more then anything. So I promise these tiers, when they unlock, are pretty much catered to getting the decks into the hands of the people who really want them here. And I’ll stagger their launch to agreed times if need be :)

Gotchya. But if you get close to the goal you should open it up because I'm sure you'll see an influx of funds coming your way.
I understand that you don't want to offer the reserve deck until the funds are there but that does pose a risk. I, for one, like to pledge and get it over with. I don't like to have to monitor a campaign and adjust my pledge midway through. It just leaves another point of error open. Also, I hope that the reserve deck not being offered initially didn't deter anyone from pledging early on.
I will check updates to see when I can add the reserve deck both here and on KS in case UC gets hacked AGAIN.

I might go for that next time. I'm trying a new strategy this time because a) it's incredibly stressful having a high goal and having to fight to scrap past it and b) I've seen anecdotal evidence that a good 10-15% of potential backers prefer to back only once the campaign is funded (especially people who don't use Kickstarter regularly), so I'm hoping now that we're over 100% we can keep the momentum going rather than the usual dead zone between the first 3 days and the last 3 days.

And, ultimately, I'd rather have the run of standard decks and miss out on the copper one, even if that would be frustrating, than to have no decks at all. I'm still playing around with how to organise and price campaigns so I'll have to wait and see how this goes :)

Thanks mate!

New stretch goals include a copper bottle opener/keyring with Hops & Barley branding. It will be available as an add-on at €12,000 and included in split bricks for free.

UPDATE on Brewer's Reserve

So guys I had an idea. I did the numbers and I still can't risk making the Brewer's Reserve deck so good a price at lower tiers as to undermine and cannibalise brick pledges. The priority is encouraging brick pledges (it's a great price!) to fund the campaign.

However, my idea is this. For those collectors here, part of the UC community who have been instrumental in steering design, advising and helping get all our decks made, I can create a special tier.

I could call it something incredibly unattractive to the casual backer, like United Cardists Supporter and it would have a vague reward wording that would ensure no-one would back it. However it would be for you guys to get yourselves whatever reward you wanted, just we would work it out between us.

I'd probably limit it to ten people to avoid a nightmare amount of admin, and the reward could be customised via pm. Sound like a plan? We can then work out a custom reward and price including shipping and that way you can get exactly what you want without having to get more than you need.

My two cents; I certainly appreciate it that you're trying to make things work for everyone or especially for us at UC but I feel like it is better to go with same treatment for all. UC member or not. Some things come with a certain price tag attached to them and if that breaks it for some, so be it, imo.

Fair enough, was just throwing it out there!

I'm sure our reputation wouldn't really be affected by it... there would be no Jocu without the UC community and I have no problem showing appreciation to regular supporters :)

In other words, "screw vasta41! He'll have to wait like everyone else to pledge for the reserve deck."

All kidding aside, as long as (hopefully) it gets released at some point I'll be happy.

Haha, not at all. It's more of a screw all of us equally  .
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

Quick question on the Bottle cap openers, Will it just be Hops and Barley branded or one side Hops and Barley and Jocu on the other side?
I personally think the double sided would be a cool way to somewhat advertise your brand, also it would better connect Hops and Barley to the Jocu Brand you might want to do this with future projects as well.

You’re right, the other side has the jocu logo.

The design file is a little ugly as it’s purely for the manufacturer to work with so until we have a decent 3D mockup or similar I’m going to resist showing it too much. Hopefully we can have a more realistic render soon :)

Especially as the stretch goal seems to be getting closer...
