Just got the gilded decks (what can I say, I'm a sucker) and they turned out very nice. I am impressed that the creator of this deck who is a first timer managed this project exceptionally well. He kept to his timeline and delivered what he promised. Some veteran KS creators could take a lesson from him. His communication has been steady, informative and reassuring througout the process. A job well done! Here's to many more successful decks!

That's a very interesting reaction. I'm also a first timer in regards to playing card campaigns on Kickstarter (Culturae Animalis - 11 days left). I'm trying to communicate with the community, and my cards also serve a greater purpose of supporting the environment and rescuing abandoned animals. You say his communication has been steady - are you focussing on post campaign completion? I assume his feedback and engagement with the community is why you would return to his next campaign - and I hope I can achieve the same, though I do wonder how a new face can reach such extents in a first campaign and what makes this community really rally to back a project?

Part of it you nailed. Listening to the community and being transparent about all stages of the process. Too many times creators hit a roadblock and then dont tell people, and they get angry when there is a delay and they dont know why. Weekly (or as close as you can come) updates that show proofs, card shipment status with the manufacturer, etc. are all great things to post and update. And above all: dont be a dick in the comments! Resolve issues that come up without a moaning excuse. If you see another deck that you like, dont be afraid to team up with other creators to help boost each others projects and get more exposure. Use many different forums (instagram, the 52+j Forum, here, /r/playingcards, etc.) I am more willing to back a bad deck to support a new artist if they show that they are part of the community, and not out for a quick cash grab *COUGH* BOCOPO *COUGH*

As for what makes us back? it varies from person to person, but a good majority here look for original designs, fully custom (and playable) decks & tucks, and people who have done their research for quality manufacturers (USPCC, Cartamundi, LPCC, etc) and fufillment (GW, playingcarddecks.com, etc). Too many times, we have been screwed over by MPC printed decks, poor fufillment, and bad attitudes in general.

At the end of the day, remember that Crowdfunding function on many of the same principals as a business. You have a unique product, you have good customer service, and you deliver on a product. People will always remember good service. They will also remember bad service.

thats my...$.25 anyway

Saw a review of these by The Card Guy on YouTube and really like them. Will they be available on any site? Would love to pick up both decks. Cheers

Bocopo SMASH for the win.
Now all Bocopo does is retail decks from other creators, like the Bicycle Naruto and Dragon Ball Z decks.

Hi James, thank you for the kind words and really glad you like the decks. I won't be doing another KS project this year but will be doing the second around February 2020 (roughly) as the design process will take a bit longer for the next as I'm looking at multiple decks with different and individual designs as opposed to the recent which had variations of the same design.

The decks should be available outside Kickstarter from September onward. This project is currently in the fulfilment phase for all the initial backers on Kickstarter and being shipped between now and the next few weeks to them so once this is all completed the remainder will be shipped to a few retailers for general sale.

Hope there will be a waiting list to sign up to for the remaining decks!

There was a good number left over from the Kickstarter as each deck was a 2000 run so you'll be able to pick them up easily without problem once available. 8-)

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I believe I'm hitting the points you outline, it's clear that being an active member first helps a lot. Trying to research the communities and engage with people, but trying to do so while also letting people know about the campaign and not come across as spammy is often a fine line, which unfortunately I imagine I've crossed unintentionally. We can only learn and grow. I'm glad I took the communities advice to move to EPCC, despite this doubling print costs - my goal is for high quality also and appreciate the feedback people here have given. These Primordial Greek Mythology cards are beautiful, I'm glad the campaign went well.

Thanks JBP, glad you like them and really happy it all went well as well. Had one minor hitch towards the end but thankfully an easy fix and all the backers it related to were understanding and supportive.

If it interests members on the forum later down the line I could throw up a post-KS analysis outlining how I set about getting everything done, the process and the end results etc if it's of general interest to anyone or any new members asking about advice or looking for reference on successful KS campaigns for their own (although it might a short while before I do it as I want to complete the Primordial fulfilments which are still underway now).

I'd be very happy as a fellow creator to hear more about the process you took and exchange advice and help.

I've been on UC for a little while now but still getting used to the rules - are we allowed to share email addresses on here?

I'm not sure if we can but my contact address is listed on the Kickstarter project page, or can just DM me on there in a private message if easier :)

well... other veteran mods can correct me if I'm mistaken as I'm not really sure it's an official rule per se but posting direct personal email addresses is typically advised against as I'm sure you can imagine the issues that might potentially arise from having an email address made so public on a forum as UC, most especially if it's not yours to share... but no worries; you can always exchange contact info privately through PM to the members you'd like to reach out to and we very much encourage that sorta networking :D

Btw, this was a deck I had ended up passing on as the campaign seemed extraordinarily ambitious for a first-time creator but am now incredibly regretful that I had; from what I've seen, I find myself coping with intense jealousy of my friends' decks as they've clearly come out much, much more impressive than I initially thought they would - great job costa!! Now I just gotta wait to get my hands on a set of my own lol :ugthink:

PipChick, drop me a private message here or on KS and I can sort you out BackerKit survey from the previous campaign to fill out and place an order (at the original KS prices) if you like :) GW are doing the final reward mail-outs this week so can swing an order in for you if you like at the last minute.

Gotta get my package from the post. Forgot what I ordered, but I think I got 1 or 2 spare? We could trade something. But I think Costa has a good opportunity for you to get some for a good price, so if you can afford them go with him, if you want to wait you can write me back, I would say.
