Arcana - Scam Stuff

Unread post by jerichoholic »

Just happened to come across this while searching for something on the other Arcana decks. This is from Brian Brushwood of Scam School and available for preorder right now at his Scam Stuff shop. He worked with Theory11 and USPCC to create a really cool set of decks from the looks of it. Unfortunately for international customers it seems the only shipping methods are UPS and DHL, which usually cost a fair amount even for just 2 decks. I think they look great, especially since they could have gone fairly standard with them but chose not to. They also have a special collectors box and coin available, if you feel like spending $100.

Both tucks look great, I would choose the black Omega deck. I would like to see more of the cards but I might make a blind purchase. The courts are two-way and decent.

That box looks amazing but I'm afraid to buy it because it would only piss me off trying to figure out how to open it.

I'd save the promotional pictures of the box. I'd have to assume the box has to be always open for photo shoots, so chances are it's been photographed unlocked but with the lid on. Compare the glyphs of your box with the pics and you now have an open box. I'm no master lock picker so that's where I'd start.

Or hammer and chisel that sucker. That works too.

Yeah, I'm tempted on the box, too. But, for the same reasons as decibelhz above, I'm at odds with myself over it....

I guess this is my concern. I have worries this will be Schrödinger's Playing Cards - you're never quite sure whether they're actually in the box.

Brian makes out that it's difficult to solve, which makes me wonder whether I'd end up getting frustrated, and try opening it with a Chainsaw to actually see the decks. ;)

It'll probably just be easier to buy a couple of decks.

I had these in my cart the other night but, I've been having problems with my computer lately. It locked up before I could complete the order and I had to shut it down. Since it was late, I just went to bed. The next day I had this email from them:

Hey -- Brian Brushwood here, along with the whole gang at Scam Stuff.

So we were all gathered around our computer, watching your order come together... but then (PLOT TWIST!) we saw that you didn't finish checking out!

There was kinda a moment of silence. And then Jon was all. "Dude... Do.... do you think this person was attacked by grizzly bears or something?"

That *totally* made sense to us, so we leaped directly into action. We formed a task force and started calling all the ranger stations in your state... Good news, turns out you weren't in any of them.

Brandt thinks you may be currently battling pirate-ninja-robots. Bryce is still convinced that you were abducted by aliens, in which case it'll be a while before you read this. Me? It's obvious to me that you suddenly developed the power of flight and are just taking a few days to celebrate.

Whichever it is, I'm sure it's very exciting and taking up all your time. But HERE'S THE IMPORTANT THING: You should know that your order is still waiting at checkout.

Take all the time you need. We're currently holding a candlelight vigil, and will be holding hands thinking of you until you return.

 Seriously, the best email I've received in a long time!

It is good hey .... very novel.
When you think it is targeting your own checkout trials ....
A let down but, when you realise it is generic to failed checkout-ee's, not composed to you specifically.
I got the hump for two seconds 'til the laughter came again. It is a novel approach, nicely executed.
Brian has 'the Patter', the Spiel, the Gift of the Gab. He does not seem too 'affected', which is a plus.
I finally checked out ok**.

** Crossed Fingers
O, I beg of you your comprehensions,
yet laugh at your contempts ....
my only competition is with myselves.

But Lèse-majesté, especially >Normans, natch.

Is jarnstill the Ars of the Hors Nebulous ?
Neigh .... the Effluxor of the Omniverse ??

Repeating Jacks, Kings and Aces! I think the back of the tuck should've been the front of it.

Well, THAT just saved me forty bucks (since I was planning to buy two of each.)

Bummer.

Those courts are just slight variations of each other with different colors so they may be acceptable to some. Each queen is different as they should be.

Wow, I really don't like those courts. They're well drawn and have great potential but the size of them accompanied with the odd borders just makes them seem off. And I hate that the Aces aren't Aces!

I usually wait until Magic Orthodoxy or someone post a deck review video, could've saved me $11.99. I really like the inside and outside tuck.
