Bicycle Beekeeper - PCD

Unread post by jerichoholic »

Just released from Playing Card Decks from their July Pip Box, nice completely custom Bikes. Looks designed by the same person as the Ladybug decks. Only 1000 of each. And on sale right now.

I like these better than the ladybugs. But I was just about to comment that there are way too many bee-themed decks out there until I saw the courts. They're fantastic! I'm probably in just based on them.

If I get one, it'll be the light deck.

Holy heck... Just saw Victor's review on The Guard Oak deck that came out in 2018:

So PCD recycled nearly everything from the faces of The Guard deck to put on the Bicycle Beekeepers, just tweaked the pips on number cards and added a few bees to the indices. That makes sense now why the courts for the Bicycle Beekeepers doesn't match its bee theme. So these faces are the new standard faces for PCD decks?

They also used them in the Ladybug decks. I think you may be on to something and that something is good. I like the courts. :)
TL:DR It's completely up to you.
We can still be friends.
I actually like playing cards.

Back when Ladybugs came out, they made no secret of the fact they'd be using The Guard courts as their standard. This time around they've let the deck speak for itself. Not much different than what Jackson does with his standard courts.
"I have no response to that."

Hey, if Daniel Schneider can have his hours and years of work updating the USPCC courts, others should be be able to have theirs too! JR, then Lotrek and Lorenzo, now Jody have their signature style courts. PCD with the amount of decks they produce, makes good sense to have their own signature courts as well.

This is a good development . Many KS projects still stick with USPCC standards and use familiarity as the excuse to not even bother to recolour or tweak the courts. Having more designers come out with their own signature style will serve to push others to design their own or at least tweak the courts to suit the deck theme.
(NOT DS courts as I can't even see the so-called mods he did without a magnifying glass, unlike Lorenzo's Ravn series)

This then allows the designers to focus more on the overall deck rather than spend most of their time constantly redesigning new courts. Randy explained it very well in the Jocks and Nerds thread how the courts are the toughest and most time consuming part of designing a fully custom deck.

These were re-released without the Bicycle branding and with new jokers: https://playingcarddecks.com/products/b ... ter-series

They were also included in the July PipBox.

It's had a few tweaks, but I'm glad this is back in print.
