Ancient Civilizations (Russian)

Unread post by Räpylätassu »

My parents bought this deck from Italy a few weeks ago and I quite like it so I thought to open a thread for it, althought it is not a new deck. The deck is called Ancient Civilizations and was made in Russia in the 90's. My deck is from 1993, a quick search on ebay shows listings for the same deck from 1991 and 1999 also. The deck is 100 % custom, bridge sized and a 52 card deck. Each suit represents a different culture, the clubs are Egyptians, the hearts are Greek, the spades are Persian and the diamonds are Medieval European/Viking. My deck had two jokers + two calender cards for the year 1994. Each pip card has a different image on it, along with the pips. There exists also a Fournier deck by the same name and a somewhat similar theme, although a different art style.

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

This is the deck I was playing with as a child! Man, you have no idea how long I've been searching for it. I had only a vague memory of illustrated pip cards and the back design resembling a shield, not enough for google to help me out. Seeing this after twenty five years brings back all the good memories. Thank you!

Glad to be of service! There seem to be three listings for this deck on ebay here, here and here if you wish to buy one. The prices are rather high, although the third listing has unopened decks. Also only the first has the border around the courts, the other two don't seem to have that.

Edit: Added to Portfolio52.
